What is a Legal Document Assistant (LDA)?

We are non-attorney legal professionals authorized to help Self-Help litigants with their legal documents preparation. Working with us is a collaborative process. It is important to understand that the legal process is a process which can be complicated and takes time. We, LDAs can help clients navigate the legal procedure set for by the court for their legal case. 

Legal Document Assistants(LDAs) are registered with the county and bonded. We are bounded by Bus. & Prof. Code §6400, et seq. We must publish our registration information, which is listed below and throughout the site. 

Collaborative process meaning:

• Clients provide instructions on what they want to file and what information to include

• LDA will draft the legal form and assemble the documents then present the draft documents to clients

• Clients approves or corrects the drafts

• LDA will make final revisions, if necessary then clients sign

• The legal document printed and submitted to the court for filing

• When appropriate, the client pays third party fees such as court filing fees, publication fees, recording fees, etc. 

What is Self-Help Services?

A kind of service that an LDA can perform you as a resource in connection with your legal matter in which you are representing yourself:

• We type or complete, as you specifically direct, legal documents that you have selected

• We LDAs can provide you general published factual legal information that has been written and approved by an attorney, to help you represent yourself

• We can provide you published legal documents

• We can file and serve legal forms and documents as you specifically direct

• We work with your attorney to provide unbundled legal services

These are the only kinds of services that a Legal Document Assistants can perform for you. If you need additional services beyond our scope of services, we recommend finding yourself a limited scope attorney that can help advice your specific legal matter.
